SOM Golden Thoughts
June 2010 – September 2010 Volume 14, No. 2
Dear Friends,
We have always loved this time of year. Our students have shown such great promise and dedication in their classes, and now is graduation time! We are truly blessed to have had such opportunities to teach and to learn. It is true that the teachers often learn more than their students, and this is once again what has happened at GTCRS. This is also the time of year when the stars of our classes have the opportunity to grace us with their knowledge and enthusiasm by giving seminars throughout the summer. Please look within this newsletter for the times and subjects that GTCRS’ wonderful students will be presenting.
We are quite involved in the integration of ICSL and UCSL. Both of us have volunteered our time and talent to the modules that are laying the ground work for integration. There is a long way to go, and we have witnessed great progress. We have both enjoyed the opportunity to work with other ICSL and UCSL ministers and practitioners. There is still much to be done, and we will report on the progress as the integration continues to unfold.
We have always believed that the consciousness of this church is one of the highest and it is only exceeded by the love we all have for one another. Time and time again we have heard that GTCRS people are outstanding in the practice of the Science of Mind® and that it is apparent that we all love and respect one another. There can be no greater praise!
We believe the summer is a great time to restore and renew our enthusiasm for this teaching and for our church. There are a number of wonderful books that are available in the church bookstore which will be an inspiration to each one of you. Too often we think that because a book or a pamphlet was written many years ago that it is no long relevant or inspiring in this age of the Internet. Nothing could be further from the truth. Some of the wisest teachers and thinkers were ancients or at least late 19th century or early 20th century writers. As much as we would like to be able to teach from every single one of these great works, time and curriculum requirements make that impossible. Neither need stand in your way to reading these great works and sharing your renewed ideas with members and friends of the church.
A word or two about our recently concluded Unexpected Income Program: Thirty-two people participated in the program from January 1st to April 15th. Nineteen of those on the program demonstrated over $30, 000! They of course tithed 10% to GTCRS. Some unexpected money is still coming in, because many of you continue generating unexpected income all year long. We want to thank all the practitioners who provided the spiritual mind treatments for those on the program. You are a great credit to the prosperity consciousness and well-being of this church and its membership and friends.
We are so blessed to have again served as your pastors and teachers this past “school year.” It is difficult to believe that we have been serving GTCRS for going on 14 years. It has been and continues to bless both of us, and we thank you again for your constant love and support.
Have a wonderful summer! Enjoy the summer seminars and all the fellowship that those seminars will provide.
LOVE AND JOY,
Nancy and David

Demonstration Corner
By Kathryn Stuvaints, R.Sc.P.
Hi, everyone.
It has been a long time since I have shared some of the amazing demonstrations that have demonstrated in the lives of some of our members. The demonstration that I am going to share with you is so powerful that I felt to add any other demonstrations would fall in the shadow of this powerful demonstration. This demonstration really illustrates what Dr. Holmes had to say about the controlling of conditions. Dr. Holmes said, “We believe in the control of conditions through the power of the Mind.” And as you read about the conditions that were facing one of our members who resides in Hawaii, you will realize the Truth of Dr. Holmes’ statement.
On February 27 because of the massive earthquake in Chili, Hawaii was under a tsunami warning. The Hawaiian residents were awakened at 6 am on Saturday to the sound of tsunami sirens. The newscasters said the tsunami would arrive in Hawaii about 11 am. It was predicted that a tsunami wave (or waves) of 12 feet and higher would come ashore on several areas of all the Hawaiian Islands for several hours. It was also warned that with this activity the waves could “wrap around” the islands, causing major destruction on the coastal shores. The effects would be unknown until it happens. The residents of the islands were also warned that there could be power outages, and the water supply could be turned off. Ms. B., since she lives one block from the ocean front, gathered some personal items, went to the store for ice and some food, and then headed for higher ground. Ms. B. called Rev. Nancy and asked for a treatment. Rev. Nancy treated that the Universe expresses Its nature—that one part of the Universe cannot harm another part of the Universe. She treated that the nature of the Universe is unity, peace, harmony, and that all action flows from this nature.
Ms. B. said it was a harmonious experience for all. When the tsunami arrived, the highest surge was about three feet and there was no damage or destruction. All of the residents who were on the islands’ coastal areas moved to higher ground. All of the boats moved out of the harbor to deeper waters. The Mayor of the county expressed her praise and gratitude for the citizens behaving so harmoniously. She said that everyone knew what to do, and they did it. The Governor called it a very good “practice” and praised the cooperative efforts of all the people. Even the tourists commented on the harmony and peace they felt even in the face of what could have been uncontrollable chaos and a huge disaster. And though a lot of the roads and businesses were closed at 10 am, most reopened by 4 pm. Several people Ms. B. spoke to had done what Ms. B. and her family did—gather with family and friends in the mountains, visiting, playing games, eating, enjoying the beautiful sunny day, watching the reports on television, and watching the ocean. Ms. B. said that it wasn’t the Saturday she expected, but because of treatment, it was a pleasant and harmonious experience.
I know that you agree that Ms. Bs demonstration was very powerful, and a true testament to the power of this teaching. In closing I share another of Dr. Holmes’ statements from The Science of Mind textbook, page 258. He writes, “Pure spirit is not and cannot be governed by any weather conditions whatsoever.” Even a tsunami isn’t more powerful that Spirit. Have a wonderful summer, and if you haven’t become familiar with this teaching, maybe now is the time. You never know when you might need to rely on the Principles of Truth. Namaste.
I Am Provided! – Opportunity for Practice
By Melissa Blevins, R.Sc.P.
“There is a place in us which lies open to the Infinite; but when the Spirit brings Its gift, by pouring Itself through us, It can give to us only what we can take. This taking is mental. If we persist in saying that Life will not give to us that which is good, It cannot, for Life must reveal Itself to us, through our intelligence.” Dr. Ernest Holmes
Life provides for Itself in every way. Life provides for us through our conscious expansion, in our opportunities to consciously use the Law. Our teaching is a Science. To gain mastery in any field requires constant, consistent practice, and our teaching is no exception. Those who are considered masters in their field practice many hours every day. Every day, each moment, Life provides us opportunity for practice, the opportunity to know it is done unto me as I believe and to recognize all good is freely given.
When we take daily opportunities to treat for our needs, we grow in our belief in the Power of Good and in our ability to use this Power. There is no big or little in Mind; however, Mind works through us. The Law responds to us, as we believe. It is our work to believe—before we see the evidence. As Dr. Holmes reminds us, the Universe cannot give us more than our ability to take and this taking is mental.
Don't judge by appearances. Allow yourself the time and conscious effort necessary for your consciousness expansion. If one is treating for a particular consciousness, and it is not immediately manifest, don’t fret. Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones in his book, The Art of Being writes, “Do the work remembering that where you are ultimately headed is far more important than the time it will take you to get there.”
And finally, another powerful idea from Dr. Holmes—“If day by day we have a greater understanding and a clearer concept, if daily we realize more of Truth and apply It in our actions, then we are on the right path and eventually we shall be made free. It is a wonderful experiment and a great adventure to make conscious use of the Law; to feel we can plant an idea in Mind and see it gradually take form.”

“Such is the power of right thinking that it cancels and erases everything unlike itself. It answers every question, solves all problems, is the solution to every difficulty.
It is like the Sunlight of Eternal Truth bursting through the clouds of obscurity and bathing all life in a celestial glory.”
Ernest Holmes, The Science of Mind
