SOM Golden Thoughts

November-December 2011
Volume 16, No. 5

Dear Friends,

Our annual meeting was after the Sunday celebration on October 30th, and what a wonderful meeting it was!  The congregation unanimously approved affiliation with the new organization, Centers for Spiritual Living, which will become the active, integrated organization for all the former ICSL and UCSL churches and centers at New Orleans in February 2012.  It was a momentous occasion for all of us.  The congregation also approved a new name for our beloved church.  Formerly, we were called the Golden Triangle Church of Religious Science/Center for Positive Living.  After approval from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, we shall be Center for Spiritual Living/Pittsburgh South.  The change in our name was a required step in our affiliation with the new Centers for Spiritual Living.  However, as far as our teaching and practicing the Science of Mind, nothing will change!  We shall have the benefits of membership in a much larger and wealthier organization that will aid us in our goals and aspirations.  This development is the result of hours and hours of concentrated effort on the part of hundreds of loving, loyal, and inspired ministers, practitioners and laity.  It has been truly a united effort, and one that has brought together all those who practice the Science of Mind® in an exciting, productive, and supportive way.  We all well and truly blessed in the accomplishments of one and all!  The accomplishments are the demonstrations of Spiritual Mind Treatments given at every step of the way by individuals and committees.  As your pastors and teachers of the Science of Mind® we look forward to a new day of continued blessings and wonderful new experiences.

The holiday seasons will be here soon.  We certainly have much to be thankful for this year.  Not only the celebration of our affiliation with the new Centers for Spiritual Living, but our annual financial report bore out that our Church continues to prosper.  Our December schedule is once again filled with celebratory events beginning with the annual Christmas party; followed by our beautiful Candlelight service; and culminating in our participation in the World Healing Meditation at the end of the month.  Also, our landlord has informed us that repairs to the roof have been completed, and we can expect new paint and carpeting in the next few weeks.  Truly, we are blessed.

To top all this off we begin another new class period which will feature another Science of Mind® class and a new seminar that is a first for our church.  We once again invite you one and all to come join us for this next series of classes either in person or on Skype.  See you soon!

  With Love and Joy,
Nancy and David

Demonstration Corner
By Katherine Stuvaints, R.Sc.P.

Hello everyone!  Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and we are enjoying this Infinite Intelligence that is preparing us for winter.  It does so easily and effortlessly.  This Intelligence is present everywhere, at all times.  And those of us at GTCRS got to witness this in Its true magnificence this past August when Hurricane Irene roared up the east coast of the United States.  We got to witness the power of this teaching at its best.  If any of us doubted that God is all there is, and is everywhere present, those doubts were permanently removed and replaced with total belief in the ever-present Good.  When you read the following demonstration, you will realize how powerful our minds are when we use this Intelligence with understanding.

This demonstration comes from Rev. Nancy.  Rev. Nancy’s son, Sean, and his family own a campground and live in Vermont.  If any of you watched the television coverage of Hurricane Irene, you would have seen the damage that the flood waters did to the state of Vermont.  Bridges were washed out; lives were lost; and towns totally destroyed.  Rev. Nancy called Sean to find out what was going on with them.  She asked him if she could do a prayer for him, and said yes.  As any parent knows, when your child is faced with a traumatic experience, it is challenging to remain calm.  And Rev. Nancy is like any other loving parent; she was concerned about her son and his family.  The difference is that Rev. Nancy knows she does not have to succumb to conditions.  So she contacted the practitioners of the church and asked them to give a treatment for Sean, his family, home and campground.  A few days after the hurricane, Rev. Nancy e-mailed to the Church’s practitioners.  “Thought you all would like to know the results of your treatment work.  I have talked with Sean and Bonnie every day since Sunday.  The campground is in the southeastern part of the state, within 10 or 15 miles of the New Hampshire border.  The water from the river came up within 15 feet of one of their bathhouses before it stated to recede. (They must be at least 30 feet above the river.)  Other than for about five minutes on Sunday afternoon, they have enjoyed having power the whole time.  Cayla and Jason started school yesterday, on time, and went by bus-which means the roads and bridges near them are okay.  Sean and Bonnie still own their previous home on the western side of the state, north of Burlington, along Lake Champlain.  Sean was there yesterday, and everything was fine.  If you have seen pictures of the water rushing and moving everything in its way, you know how great it is that they have fared so well.  The storm brought down a couple of very tall white pine trees which were rotten; they had intended to remove them this fall anyway.  Many of their seasonal campers have not fared so well.  In fact many are moving into the campground because their homes have been damaged or they can’t yet reach them.  One man’s garage with two of his cars inside was swept away.  Ludlow and Killington have been “marooned,” and they live within 20 or 30 miles of those places. All this reminds me that there is always Good, and when we invoke the Good, it is done unto us.  From all that Sean and Bonnie have told me, it appears they have demonstrated even greater good because so many people are moving in.  They have something that people need and want and is for the good of all.  Sean and Bonnie have good to give, and this good is circulating and being received with gratitude and appreciation.  God is Good!  The Law is Good!  So thank you, thank you for your treatment.  Sean and Bonnie are very grateful as well.”  One thing we practitioners remembered is that we don’t deny the facts; we deny power to the facts.

Now wouldn’t you agree that this teaching is awesome!?!  What a wonderful gift this is from the Universe that treatment could “protect”, even when it appears that devastation is inevitable.  Look at the joy this teaching brought Rev. Nancy and her loved ones.  Once again, I extend an invitation to you that if you haven’t taken this teaching seriously, maybe now is the time for you to begin.  Rev. Nancy will be giving classes on Spiritual Mind Treatment starting in November.  Come join us and find out how you can use the power of your mind.  Namasté.

I Am Provided!
By Melissa Blevins, R.Sc.P.

We use the Power of the Universal Mind every time we think.” Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind.

In our recent SOM® 101 class, we discussed the triune nature of God.  One idea that is very clear is that the nature of Law is impersonal, subjective, plastic, and neutral.  In other words the Law always says yes to us.  Whatever we believe is true, the Law says YES and produces the form in our experience.  We form a mental equivalent or mental image, and the Law has all the knowledge and substance to produce any impression given it.  The Law cannot and does not question.  Its job, as the Servant of Spirit, is to accept and produce.

Our freedom is in our thinking.  We are free to think any thought, believe any idea we desire.  We can form the mental image of our perfect life, of our abundant livingness, of our ideal creative expression.  We have the Power and the ability to choose and initiate thoughts.  We can think “I am abundantly provided every good thing I desire.”  My body expresses perfect health.”  “All of my relationships are loving and harmonious.”

Within this freedom is the possibility of bondage.  The Law will just as readily produce negative thinking and beliefs.  If we are fearful or if we are expecting something bad to happen, the Law has no choice but to say yes to us.  It is the Servant of Spirit, and we are Spirit.  We can remember that whatever we have thought, we can unthink.  We need not continue in limited thinking and experiences once we recognize that something greater exists.  We can choose again, choose something grander and more in harmony with the Truth of Life.

As the Holidays approach, we have another opportunity to reflect on the good changes that have occurred in 2011, I am grateful for this teaching, for the Truth has set me free and continues to set me free.  We can feel “well pleased” with all that we have set out to accomplish and all that was accomplished.  Let us allow the Christ Light to shine brightly as we welcome 2012 and the joyful God-filled moments it contains.

ALOHA!
